Remember that episode of Friends when Joey’s fridge broke so he had to eat all the food to keep it from spoiling? Well, as much as it sounds fun for all Joey fans out there, you wouldn’t want something like this happening to you.
In this column we will give you some smart hacks on how to keep your fresh food from spoiling fast.
Keep Celery & Asparagus Wrapped in Foil
If you keep these veggies in a regular plastic wrapper, they will last about a week before they go bad. Two weeks tops.
What you can do is put your celery or asparagus in a sheet of aluminum foil.
Aluminum foil lets the gas that spoils your celery out, instead of trapping it inside, which makes your veggies fresh and crisp much longer.
Keep your Herbs Dipped in Water
If you like your herbs fresh, make sure you don’t keep them in a bag like most people do. Instead, store them in a glass of water and put the bowl on the windowsill.
If you are going on vacation or you know you won’t be using your herbs for a longer period of time, chop them up, put them in an empty ice cube tray, pour some olive oil over them, and freeze for later use.
