The urge to eat a certain type of food is often called a craving, although a craving is not specifically defined. Craving foods is different from being hungry, and craving carbs while trying to cut back can be rather disturbing to the diet.
In order to decrease the amount or intensity of carb cravings, the best thing to do is to cut back on the carbs, not surprisingly, while at the same time refraining from eating sugar.
When, however, you do start to crave carbs, there are still small things you can do to avoid eating pasta or a pastry and beat the craving.
When craving carbs, go outside for a quick walk, blow off some steam, breath in some fresh air and stay as far away from refrigerators, grocery stores or bakeries as possible. Physical activity will definitely fight off the craving, and 5-10 minutes of it should do the trick. Do yoga, stretches, or even push ups and sit ups or if you have children, dance with them. They’ll have tons of fun and you will fight off your craving.
Focusing your attention on reading, cleaning the house or even making plans can help get your mind off carbs, saving your diet and keeping your weight in check.
